We have very exciting news! BeSpoke now has a podcast: BeSpokeSpeaks. Many of you have been asking us about turning our audio guides into a podcast so that they are downloadable and you can take them anywhere and everywhere. Well, we have listened, and we are happy to announce that 5 episodes in season 1 are now available on BuzzSprout and iTunes. “The first-years say they practiced orientation before coming into performance class yesterday and guess what? It really helped!! They all said they felt calmer and present!” ⠀ ⠀ As a Voice & Communication coach, I am always looking for ways to help clients build a bridge— so that they can transfer the work we do together in the safety of the learning environment to more pressurized communication situations of speaking publicly, whether as a character or as themselves. It’s one thing to try grounding and breathing deeply and letting your voice be heard when the stakes are low, but the pressure of speaking publicly is a game changer! It’s that pressure that often makes us feel destabilized, or hold our breath, or feel scared to really allow our voices to be heard. ⠀ ⠀ Orientation work from Organic Intelligence, a mindful approach to working with the nervous system, and grounding and breathing work from Fitzmaurice Voicework, are really useful tools for building that bridge. As performing artists, often the struggles we experience, whether in the creative process in rehearsal, performance or the classroom, come from a nervous system that is attracted to the Fight/Flight/Freeze response. We literally don’t feel safe. A predominance of these states and an inability to get easily back to safe mode in your nervous system has devastating effects on the creative process and in life. Your system is de-synched! This might manifest in a negative thought loop, difficulty breathing or restrictions in the voice, or stage fright. Maybe it manifests in feeling really low between jobs.
